Discover one of the most beautiful corners of the northern area of Los Glaciares National Park combining navigation on the Lago del Desierto with landing and hiking through the forests of the Vespignani Reserve to the viewpoint of the Vespignani Glacier and Cerro Fitz Roy. Early in the morning we start our search for the hotels in El Calafate and then head towards the mythical Route 40. This route borders Lake Argentino, crosses the Santa Cruz River and La Leona River, after 1.15 hours we will arrive at the Hotel de Campo La Leona, almost a museum of Route 40 where we will make a stop. The ride continues along the shores of Lake Viedma with the Andes Mountains in the background. After a total of 3 hours of driving we will arrive at the mountain village of El Chaltén. Here we will make a brief stop and possible transfer in the center of town and then continue along Route 23 to go into the Cordillera on the way to the Punta Sur del Lago del Desierto located 37 kms away (1.15 hs gravel road and stones). There we will embark to the Vespignani Reserve. During the 20 minutes navigation you will be able to contemplate the Huemul and Vespignani Glaciers and the north face of Cerro Fitz Roy.
Once in the reserve you will be welcomed by the local guide who will provide information about the 3 self-guided trails of different difficulty levels (easy, moderate and difficult). From the last two it is possible to get a close view of the Vespignani Glacier -thelargest and most imposing of the Lago del Desierto- and once again enjoy an incredible view of the north face of Cerro Fitz Roy. Towards the end of the afternoon, at the agreed time, passengers must return to the meeting point to board again to the South point and later transfer to El Calafate. Operates from October to March
